Once again, WiN Spain is organizing the Mentoring Workshop “Promoting Future Leadership in Science and Technology”, in collaboration with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).

The aim of the workshop is to bring together students from educational centers in Cáceres with junior and senior professional mentors from various companies and organizations in the sector, to share experiences and showcase the many areas of knowledge within the energy sector.

WiN (Women in Nuclear) Spain is a non-profit organization that brings together professionals working in various fields involving the application of ionizing radiation, such as energy production, medicine, or the restoration of works of art. Its main objective is to raise awareness among different social groups—especially women—and to promote the role of women in professional fields. WiN Spain is part of WiN Global, an international organization with more than 35,000 members from 129 countries, and operates as a working group within the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE).

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) has established the NEA International Mentoring Workshops as a platform to encourage young people—often with a focus on young women—to pursue careers in science and engineering. These international events have taken place in several countries in recent years (e.g., Japan, Russia, Kenya, and Spain). They bring together both international and local role models (“Mentors”) with young students to inspire and guide them as they consider their future.

With the goal of promoting science- and technology-related careers among younger students, WiN Spain, in collaboration with the NEA, is organizing the International Mentoring Workshop as part of the 51st Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society.

Spain was the first European country to organize this activity.
The first workshop was held during the 44th Annual Meeting of the SNE (Ávila, 2018) and brought together 50 students aged between 12 and 15. The second, held during the 45th Annual Meeting (Vigo, 2019), welcomed 70 students in the same age group.

The following two workshops, held as part of the 46th Annual Meeting (Granada) and the 47th Annual Meeting (Cartagena), exceeded 70 female students in attendance.

The 48th Annual Meeting, held in Toledo, maintained the success and engagement of previous years, and the 50th Annual Meeting, held in Córdoba, reaffirmed the strong commitment to mentoring and youth guidance in science and technology.
