Dr Yolanda Prezado is an Oportunius researcher at the Centre for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) at the University of Santiago de Compostela and a specialist in medical physics. She was previously a Research Director at CNRS and at Institut Curie, where she led the New Approaches in Radiotherapy (NARA) group. Her research focuses on developing new high-precision radiotherapy techniques, with particular emphasis on proton therapy and spatially fractionated radiotherapy (MBRT), combining technological innovation, radiobiology and clinical translation.
She has led international research projects, including a European Research Council Consolidator Grant, and has authored more than one hundred scientific publications. Her work has contributed to developing new strategies to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy while reducing toxicity in healthy tissues. It has been recognised with various national and international awards, including the 2026 Josefa Wonenburger Award and an award from the French Academy of Sciences in 2021.
The real challenge of proton therapy is no longer to demonstrate its potential, but to ensure that innovation reaches patients efficiently, equitably and sustainably.
