Reactor dismantling activities at Bohunice V1 in Slovakia

Reactor dismantling activities have started successfully at Bohunice V1 in Slovakia

Westinghouse is currently implementing a large contract with Jadrová a vyraďovacia spoločnosť (JAVYS) in Slovakia for the dismantling of the reactor coolant systems of two VVER-440 units of the Bohunice V1 Nuclear Power Plant in Slovakia. This project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). A critical activity has been completed successfully under the Westinghouse lead on Saturday, May 30, 2020 with the removal of the Unit 1 Reactor Pressure Vessel (204 ton) as well as other reactor internals (Core Basket, Bearing Shell & Bottom and Protective Tubes Unit) and transfer in two large pools (called Wet Cutting Workshops). The operations started at 7:00 and were completed at 13:00 with the reactor building crane. The two Wet Cutting Workshops will allow to start the underwater segmentation and packaging activities of all high activity components from two working bridges installed over each pool.
