About The Speaker

Berta Picamal

Berta Picamal Vicente is Legal and International Relations director at FORATOM (now nucleareurope), the trade association of the nuclear industry in Europe. She has 2 degrees in translation from Barcelona University (ES), and from Université de Mons-Hainault (BE), and a Master’s Degree on International Politics from the Brussels University (BE). She has also followed the International Nuclear Law Essentials (INLE) course organised by the OECD-NEA. She started her professional career in 1996 as Task Manager in the European Commission dealing with Nuclear Safety in the former Soviet Union countries (mainly Ukraine) through a program called TACIS. She also worked in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London and was in charge of analysing the Bank’s proposals for investment and to ensure compatibility with EU policies. She dealt with major investment projects in the nuclear sector (ie Chernobyl Shelter Fund and Nuclear Safety Account). She started working in nucleareurope in June 2004, and was responsible for radioactive waste management and decommissioning issues, and new build programs. She is in nowadays in charge of the Director General office and relations with nucleareurope members and responsible for all Legal aspects related to EU nuclear policies (Euratom Treaty at large) and International Relations.
